Program Overview

The programme includes plenary and parallel sessions, round table discussions and workshops. Topics to be covered include:
  • Circumcision and surgical interventions: circumcision-related sexual practices, and complications in the African context.
  • Round table symposium on the preventive impact of male circumcision on HIV.
  • Risk reduction: challenges faced by PLWHA in Botswana, beliefs and perceptions of HIV/AIDS among female sex workers in Nigeria, and the influence of disclosure on sexual behaviour.
  • Social interventions: working with faith-based organisations, methods for evaluating abstinence and faithfulness approaches, and couple-oriented prenatal HIV testing.
  • Antiretroviral treatment for PLHWA:  issues around gender, adherence and disclosure.
  • Care of PLHWA: case studies of different interventions, home based care, nutrition and food issues, and depression amongst OVC.
  • Gender and male involvement round table
  • Gender and communication: partner violence and HIV risk among women, language choice and sexual communication among Xhosa speakers, and what information influences adolescent sexual behaviour.
  • Good practice OVC intervention and research round table
  • A workshop on food and nutrition security in HIV/AIDS interventions.
